I had tested the first model of the super-zoom, and while I enjoyed the flexibility of the wide to telephoto, the AF and image quality weren't up to par. Both issues have been dramatically improved in this model. The PZD auto-focus works great and is very quiet, and having vibration compensation (Tamron's term for image stabilization) gives you 2-3 stops extra in low-light situations.

I recommend this lens for anyone needing a carry-around lens. There are still trade-offs of course, but it's hard to beat the utility of having such a large focal range in 1 lens!
